Open Document Formats (ODF)

ODF - OpenDocument Format OASIS International Standard (ISO/IEC 26300),
Swedish Standard (SS-ISO/IEC 26300:2008):

• XML-based open standard concerning file formats for office documents such as
  spreadsheets, text documents and presentations.


• ODF format is used for structured and formatted office document
  that are still in process (editable).


• ODF is designed to be completely vendor, platform and application neutral.


• Avoids vendor lock-in situations.

ODF Verison 1.2 approved in September 2011 as standard format for office documents by
OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards)

File Name Extensions

File name extensions are used to specify the file format for a particular document.

Commonly used file name extensions for proprietary document formats are:
.doc/.docx, .ptt/.pttx, and .xls/.xlsx
