Packaging is all around us and is usually the main showstopper
for customers to buy the product it contains.
But how do are those packagings created? How are they prototyped?
We’ll show you how in our Four Pees Café.
We took a closer look at 3D packaging visualization using treeDiM Picador.
Now we will follow-up with a demonstration of Creative Edge iC3D.
The purpose of both applications is different.
Where Picador creates a digital prototype of your packaging design,
iC3D is meant to create photorealistic packshots that can replace actual
product photography and provide consistent images for all your products.
Again, we will start with a dieline and take it into the iC3D Carton template.
There we will “fold-up” the box and then we will apply an artwork,
including various finishing effects such as foil and embossing.
Finally, we will export a high-resolution ray-traced image.

In a world with dozens of consumer products,
it’s the design that sells the product!
But how is that packaging created?
Mostly it starts with a 3D visualization of the product.
In a series of three webinars we dive deeper into
the possibilities of 3D modeling with tools such as iC3D.
In this first webinar, we provide an overview of iC3D to show
what the tool can do and what’s new in the latest version of iC3D.
This provides a general introduction to iC3D and gives regular users
some great tips and tricks with the latest edition.

You’ve created a great 3D model, great!
However, how do you get that design on your 3D product?
With a shrink sleeve, of course!
However, using a shrink sleeve comes with some
complications like deformation of the artwork design.
Learn how to modify your artwork to
deal with this the right way in this webinar.

You’ve created a great model, placed your artwork on it,
dealt with all the fancy finishing effects and built your scene.
All done, great job!
Now to make the 20 variations for all the different required languages…?
Luckily, iC3D can automate that for you!
Learn how in this webinar!

Secrets from the support vaults - Season 2, Episode 14a:
Distributed and remote rendering in iC3D
Rendering images using the Ray Tracer in iC3D
requires a strong computer with a good GPU,
and even then it may still take longer than you'd like.
One way to be more efficient is to use Distributed Rendering.
With this feature, you can use leftover processing capability from
other computers on your network to help render the images faster.

Create a packaging from scratch with iC3D!
This webinar tells you all about iC3D and how you can create your own stunning 3D packaging.
We will show you around in Creative Edge iC3D and its basic functionalities.
After explaining the User Interface and showing where you can find your resources,
we will create a packaging from scratch - revealing the entire design process.
Have you ever wondered where those beautiful advertisement campaigns
(showing off packaging) come from, before the product is released?
These pictures may have been created digitally, but doesn’t that cost a
lot of time and specialized knowledge in 3D-modelling and textures?
With Creative Edge iC3D it doesn’t have to!
iC3D has been specifically designed to create stunning 3D visualizations of packaging.
The result can be indistinguishable from actual photographs.
Using the easy-to-use Shape Modeller and database containing lots of
pre-made textures and materials, you’ll be on your way in no time!
iC3D can help you create flexible packaging (like bags or pouches) or
solid packaging (like cartons and glass bottles) with the help of variable templates.
Using the Shape Modeller, you are only limited by your imagination!
Adding your own artwork is a breeze thanks to a live link between
iC3D and a plugin for Adobe Illustrator, which allows you to see the changes
to your labels on your 3D models as you edit them.

While creating 3D visualisations for packaging or label jobs is a creative process,
ultimately there are a number of more administrative and repetitive tasks involved as well:
clients want to see different views of each 3D model,
multiple language or design variants need to be created from a model.
These tasks can be done manually using iC3D Suite, but they can also be
automated using a new Creative Edge solution called iC3D Automate.
This command-line tool can automate and standardise a whole range of
time consuming tasks and can easily be integrated through scripting or
using automation tools such as FileTrain from Laidback Solutions.
