General Information and Conditions Apply for software from callas software

ASP Server License Processing

• Applicable for customers providing server-based
  Application Services to own external clients.


• Processing of files from outside the internal network and
  dispatch of such processed files to outside of the internal network.


• If production takes place at several geographic locations,
  the ASP license likewise is applied.


• The license counts per used server
  (= per installed operating system or per virtual machine).


• The number of simultaneously started instances is not limited.

Crossgrade (change of platform)
for customers without a valid SMA contract

• Costs in the first year after purchase,
  based on the currently valid product price: 15%.


• Costs in the second year after purchase,
  based on the currently valid product price: 35%.


• Costs in the third year after purchase,
  based on the currently valid product price: 60%.


• In the fourth year after purchase,
  it is not possible to crossgrade at a special price.

Rental Conditions on Software

When closing a rental contract, please note the following remarks:

• the first payment is done in advance and comes down to one quarter.


• the other payments are also invoiced quarterly.


• the rental fee includes the SMA contract (upgrades)
  as long as the rental fee is paid.

SMA - Software Maintenance Agreement and Support Contract

• Software Maintenance Agreement and Support (SMA):
  A SMA for server licenses is obligatory for the first year.


• Without SMA:
  Basic support is included in new software purchases,
  this is limited to 3 cases/year (Phone and Email only).


• With SMA:
  Maintenance includes all upgrades for the duration of the contract,
  including Phone and Email Support, and
  Remote Intervention (up to 5 cases/year).

SMA Condition

• Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA) can be concluded
  within the first month ***) after purchase of the product.


• The SMA contract is mediated by NewFormat AB and concluded
  between callas software GmbH and the end customer.


• First level support is to be fulfilled by
  callas software partner / NewFormat AB.


• Costs of the annual SMA on the basis of the valid list price
  - a more favorable, limited in time price does not apply: 20%.


• The cost of an SMA for 3 years is 50% of the products list price.

***) SMA can be concluded retroactively. The conditions are:

• The beginning of a retroactively concluded SMA is identical with
  the invoice date of the product to be taken under care.


• The term of the retroactively concluded SMA at the time of
  the agreement conclusion amounts to at least 12 months.


• Pre-retroactively purchased SMA year,
  5% of the product price has to be added.

Licensing Models

• Hardware-based Licensing vs License Server-based Licensing.


• Hardware-based Licensing - Binds the license to the computer in use.

The software needs to be installed and activated on
the machine (real or virtual) on which it is running.
This activation binds the purchased license to the computer
on which the software is used.

A default Server/CLI license allows up to 8 parallel processes.
To run more than 8 processes simultaneously,
evaluate the use of callas License Server as the better option;
please contact NewFormat AB.



• License Server-based Licensing - For Auto-scaling setups.

Applicable for auto-scaling setups to dynamically create
new virtual machines that can immediately perform tasks.

License Types

• Production Licenses

Desktop, Server, CLI, and SDK Licences are Production Licences.

• Desktop-based Licenses for Manual/Interactive Use:


• callas pdfaPilot / pdfToolbox Desktop, for Windows, and macOS.

Manual PDF preflight and correction application.

Runs as independent standalone application or
as plug-in for Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Combines the analysis and validation of existing PDF file
according to PDF standards of choice, and corrects non-conform,
non-compliant PDF contents and converts to PDF standards of choice.



• callas pdfGoHTML for Adobe Acrobat DC, for Windows and macOS.

callas pdfGoHTML is a free (no cost) plug-in to
Acrobat DC (Standard + Pro, not Acrobat Reader).

callas pdfGoHTML substantially speeds up
the creation and evaluation of tagged PDFs,
and ensures a much higher degree of usability of tagged PDF files.

One simple click on the plug-in button converts the tagged PDF into HTML
making it easy to examine the tagging structure,
have a more flexible reading experience or make the PDF document
accessible for individuals with visual disabilities or dyslexia.



• callas pdfDPartner for Adobe Acrobat DC, for Windows and macOS.

DPart is a metadata hierarchy that can be present in a PDF file to
provide additional information associated with pages or groups of pages.

callas pdfDPartner is a free (no cost) plug-in to
Acrobat DC (Standard + Pro; not Acrobat Reader).

Allows for viewing, extracting and importing DPart metadata.
Easy inspection of DPart metadata in PDF documents.
Export of DPart information for further analysis and workflow modeling.
Import of DPart structures into any PDF files.

Advantages: Automatic, high-quality preflighting and automatic,
reliable correction of PDF files.

High volume PDF verification, comprehensive correction of typical errors,
and conversion of PDF files according to PDF standards.
Clear reports with extensive configuration options.



• SDK License


• callas pdfaPilot / pdfToolbox SDK (Software Development Kit)
  for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Allows for a thorough integration of callas technology and product
functionality in the closest possible way inside own application.
Typical use case:
Integration of callas software technology into OEM Partner solutions.

callas software SDK facilitate the development of any kind of application
that must edit PDF files; thus enables development state-of-the-art products
to check and correct PDF files.

High volume PDF verification, comprehensive correction of typical errors,
and conversion of PDF files according to PDF standards.
Clear reports with extensive configuration options.



• Dispatcher License


• Dispatcher Server for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

When callas Server is used as a dispatcher ("job distributor"),
as many "satellites" as required can connect to it.

A satellite is basically a regular server that will process files,
the dispatcher on the other hand is a server that doesn’t
process files itself, but instead receives files in its job folders
and sends them to the satellites to have them processed.

This allows for load balancing as well as for fail-over configurations so
that processing does not stop even if one of the satellites is switched off.



• License Server


• callas License Server for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
License Server introduces a dynamic way of
licensing processing capacity based on peak performance.

This type of licensing will allow callas products to run
without being activated locally, rather checking with
the License Server whether any licenses are available.


Process Cartridges and/or Credit Cartridges
are available to cater for preferred level of
peak production and peak performance.





• Developer, Coldspare and Test Licences

These license types can only be used when the licensee
has at least one of the production licenses listed above.
They also have in common that any processing result
must not be used for anything else than for testing.

• Developer License

Additional Developer license to existing
callas pdfaPilot / pdfToolbox Server/CLI/SDK licenses.

The Developer License is a non-production license that can be
used for testing purposes in a development environment.



• Coldspare License / "Standby License"

Additional Coldspare license to existing
callas pdfaPilot / pdfToolbox Server/CLI/SDK licenses.

The Coldspare License can be used as cold fail-over solution.
The system on which it is installed cannot be used for
production in parallel with the production licenses it is
supposed to provide fail-over for.



• Test License

  Test License is a license that is limited in time (2 weeks),
  and that can be a Production Test License or a
  Developer Test License or a Desktop Test License.

Favourable License Prices

Education Institutions and Government Entities
are Entitled for Favourable Prices.

• Education Licenses on Request

Entitlement for Education Pricing (Edu):

callas software GmbH only grants education licenses that are
used for education purposes and for research projects to
the following type of educational institutions:

• Non-profit oriented universities, colleges, vocational and other schools
  owned by government bodies on federal, state, regional and local level.


• Non-profit oriented schools and colleges
  owned entirely by non-profit organizations.


• Explicitly NOT included are other educational or research institutions
  operated or owned by private or private/public organizations.



Education licenses must be confirmed in advance by
NewFormat AB / callas software GmbH;
prices are available on request.




• Government Licenses on Request

Entitlement for Government Pricing (Gov):

callas software GmbH only grants government licenses
to the following type of government institutions:

• Federal, state, communal administration,
  incl. all subordinate administrative offices,
  agencies and facilities.


• Organizational bodies of the legislature and justice system
  at federal, state and communal levels.


• Federal, state, communal agencies and corporations
  under public law.


• Associations for data processing between
  federal, state and communal entities.


• All institutions and bodies entirely under public law.


• NOT entitled in terms of the above listed are churches,
  congregations, other confraternities, health insurance companies
  and other privately owned or mixed economical organizations.
